Special Correspondent

Pondicherry: The Lt. Governor of Pondicherry has declared through a notification (published in the State Gazette) that May 3 would be a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and also in keeping with the instructions of the Election Commission for Mahe and Yanam regions which would go to the first phase of election that day. Similarly May 8 has been declared a public holiday for Pondicherry and Karaikal regions as the two regions would go to second phase of polling on May 8.

All government offices, local bodies, institutions, establishments including industrial establishments and other institutions located in these regions of the Union Territory of Pondicherry would have the holidays.

This arrangement had been made to enable the electorate employed in the institutions to exercise their franchise at the general elections to the Pondicherry Legislative Assembly in the

respective regions.

It would also be a paid holiday for the workers employed on daily wage basis in various departments of the Administration.
