Defacement of public and private places banned

Lt Governor issues orders

Pondicherry: Lt Governor of Pondicherry M M Lakhera has issued orders under the Pondicherry Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act 2000 stipulating that no person shall deface any places open to public view by writing or marking with any material any poll-related advertisements for purpose of electioneering.

Additional Secretary to Revenue Department G Theva Needhi Dhas said in a release here on Thursday that the Model Code of Conduct for the compliance by the political parties had come into force with the announcement of poll schedule by the Election Commission.

Mr. Theva Needhi Dhas said that the Lt Governor had since issued the order under the Act to ensure holding of free and fair elections.
