HYDERABAD: The Central Water Commission has convened a joint meeting with officials from Andhra Pradesh and Orissa at New Delhi on April 18 to resolve the issues relating to the Vamsadhara Stage II project. The meeting is being conducted at the instance of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with whom the Orissa Chief Minister, Navin Patnaik, lodged a complaint against Stage II of the project. Mr. Patnaik complained that Vamsadhara Stage II, if allowed to be executed in its present form, would submerge a large number of villages in Orissa. He wanted a separate tribunal to be constituted for sharing the waters of the Vamsadhara. The Andhra Pradesh Government on the other hand wants to complete Stage II with a view to giving partial irrigation benefit during the coming kharif itself.
