550 plants of Congress leader felled in Anantapur

ANANTAPUR: The ugly culture of mowing down the orchards of rivals once again raised its head in the district on Thursday night at Vasapuram village in Yallanur mandal. Some 450 sweetlime and 100 sapota trees of three-years-old belonging to one Shankar Naidu were chopped by unidentified persons.

According to the police, the victim was suspecting the hand of his TDP rivals behind incident. His family has political and factional rivalry with that of Narendra Naidu in the village for long. Shankar Naidu is a village-level leader of the Congress. While Kedar Naidu, Narendra Naidu's brother, was hacked to death allegedly by his rivals at Anantapur in December 2004, two Congress activists of Shankar Naidu group, Bhaskar Reddy and Narayanaswamy, were hacked to death by rivals.
