BANGALORE: The day after his funeral, Rajkumar's family performed traditional rites at his grave at Sri Kanteerava Studios on Friday. Dr. Rajkumar's sons Shivarajkumar, Raghavendra and Puneet and other family members performed the rites. Food and fruit were placed by the grave on plantain leaves. The grave, which was covered by a shamiana, was decorated with flowers. The ceremony took place between 4.30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Dr. Rajkumar's wife, Parvathama, his sister Nagamma and other family elders initiated the ceremony, followed by their children and grandchildren. Shivarajkumar lit incense sticks and broke a coconut, according to family custom. The family then walked around the grave in silent homage. Veteran actor Shivaram, actor-director S. Narayan, director Prem and actor and MLC Umashree also participated in the `Haalu Thuppa' ceremony. From the morning hundreds of the thespian's fans, many from other regions of the State, and others who could not attend the funeral, came to the grave and offered flowers and garlands. More fans were allowed to pay their respects after the family departed. Shivarajkumar, when asked what his father's wishes were, said, "The Kannada film industry will tell the Karnataka Government what Rajkumar's wishes were, and they will get them fulfilled. We will also discuss with the Government about building a suitable memorial to my father who gave so much for Karnataka and Kannadigas." In contrast to the crowds and chaos before, during and immediately after the funeral on Thursday, a silent and calm atmosphere prevailed around the grave on Friday.
