Floral tributes to Ambedkar

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Prem Singh led Delhiites in paying tributes to the Father of the Indian Constitution, B.R.Ambedkar, on his 115th birth anniversary on Friday.

Ms. Dikshit and Mr. Singh paid floral tributes at the statue of Dr. Ambedkar in Old Secretariat. The favourite bhajans of Dr. Ambedkar were recited.

URJA's memorandum to Reddy

NEW DELHI: The United Residents' Joint Action (URJA) has submitted a memorandum at Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy's office demanding consultations with residents' welfare associations as a prerequisite to any solution to the problem of sealing of shops operating from the Capital's residential areas.

In a statement, URJA Convenor Promod Chawla said the Ministry's softening of stand by issuing a notification was a dangerous signal. ``RWAs across Delhi believe that overt appeasement of the trader lobby at the expense of the original order of the courts,'' he said, adding: "We are particularly perturbed by statements of trade organisations who claim that they have petitioned the President for status quo on allowing commercial activities in residential areas. This is not acceptable to RWAs."

Centre of Excellence

NEW DELHI: A Centre of Excellence has been set up at the Ansal Institute of Technology in neighbouring Gurgaon in collaboration with the multinational company HandsOn Technology and Engineering. The objective of the centre is to train students on real-life projects and to provide them with exposure to working in a real corporate environment. The integrated training programme will include practical training in leading edge technology and soft skills along with academic inputs. According to Ansal Institute of Technology director M.P.Singh, the centre will train students as per industry needs.

IT conference

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said information technology-based knowledge revolution would definitely help in the development of a super talent bank in our country.

Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day national conference on "Information Technology and its Applications'' organised by Bharti Vidyapeeth College of Engineering at Paschim Vihar, she said the IT revolution was touching everybody's life and speeding up the flow of information.

Fire Service Week

NEW DELHI: Members of the Delhi Fire Service led by the Chief Fire Officer R C Sharma on Friday pinned a flag on Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi in connection with Fire Service Week.

Lt Gov Joshi contributed Rs. 500 towards the welfare of firemen and enquired about the welfare measures initiated by the department for firemen.
