NEW DELHI: Former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana on Friday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to immediately bring in an Ordinance to stop the ongoing sealing and demolition exercises in the Capital. The suspended senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader also asked Mr. Singh to grant full Statehood to Delhi so that the State Government could effectively tackle all civic problems. Addressing a press conference, Mr. Khurana expressed serious concern over the Municipal Corporation of Delhi targeting ordinary citizens and alleged that the civic body was not taking severe action against the "real culprits" that include unscrupulous real estate agents and builder mafia who have cheated innocent citizens. He also accused the official machinery of failure to meet people's requirements leading to mushrooming of illegal shops and houses. Referring to the Maharashtra Government's decision to bring a legislation to regularise unauthorised constructions in Ulhasnagar, the former Delhi Chief Minister said the Centre should take a similar decision in the case of the Capital. "Dr. Manmohan Singh should ensure that an Ordinance is brought in the next session of Parliament itself to halt the sealing of shops and demolitions of unauthorised constructions." Demanding full Statehood for Delhi so that the State Government could have full control over land and civic issues, Mr. Khurana said in the last elections the Congress in its manifesto had promised to grant full statehood to Delhi and now it should fulfil its promise. Mr. Khurana also attacked senior BJP leaders for running the party as a private limited company and said he would go to any extent to ensure that the BJP was badly defeated in all elections in Delhi. Asserting that he was the true follower of the philosophy of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh and the BJP, Mr. Khurana said BJP leaders had unleashed a false propaganda against him that he was unhappy on not being elected to the Rajya Sabha or refused any senior position in the party
