Ambedkar Dalit Seva Award for Mallu Ravi

NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Government Special Representative Mallu Ravi was on Friday presented with the Ambedkar Dalit Seva Award by Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh at a function at Andhra Bhawan here. The citation stated that Dr. Ravi through out his public career strived for the betterment of downtrodden and particularly the Dalits.

Food-poisoning: 40 taken ill

KHAMMAM: Forty persons were taken ill due to food adulteration in Kondapur village in Khammam rural mandal today. According to reports, eight persons were shifted to the district headquarters hospital while all others were treated in the village.

Task force for ancient language status

HYDERABAD: The State Government has constituted a five-member task force committee to gather relevant information pertaining to Telugu language as part of efforts to ensure ancient language status. The committee would be headed by the Sports and Culture Minister, M. Satyanarayana Rao, and it would comprise Congress MLA, Mandali Buddha Prasad, Director of Archaeology department and commissioner/director of State Archives as additional members.

Heritage panel recast

HYDERABAD: The State Government has reconstituted the Heritage Conservation Committee with G. P. Rao, former IAS officer as Chairman. V. Raghavan, former Engineer-in- Chief, Anwar Aziz, noted architect, Sushil Kumar, chairman of Indian National Trust for Arts and Cultural Heritage Awards Committee, B. Narsing Rao, film maker, Frauke Quader of Society to Save Rocks and A. Siva Prasad will be members.

SI held on charge of cheating Dalit woman

NALGONDA: Bandaru Chandramohan, SI attached to the Special Branch at the district police headquarters, was arrested on the charge of cheating a Dalit woman hailing from Bodangiparthy in Munugode mandal on Thursday. Later a local court sent him to the judicial remand till April 27.

Grain worth Rs. 200 crores seized

KURNOOL: Vigilance personnel led by Additional SP Prasad Rao seized grain worth Rs 200 crores stocked in the godowns across the district on Friday. The grain include six lakh quintals of Bengal gram, two lakh quintals of jowar, 20,000 quintals of sunflower and five lakh quintals of paddy were stocked in 23 private godowns and four government godowns. Tractor falls in well, one dies

Sangareddy: In a freak accident a tractor fell into the deep well killing driver Mahipal Reddy in Mundrai village of Nangunoor mandal here on Friday. Mahipal was trying to reverse his tractor fitted with a compressor near the well when the accident occurred.

Elections to WUAs

HYDERABAD: Elections to the waters users' associations which could not go to polls last time due to various reasons, including postponement, will be held on May 6. A senior Irrigation official said here on Friday that the elections, as usual, would be held on non-party basis.

G.O. on school recognition fee quashed

KURNOOL: President of Andhra Pradesh Private Educational Institutions and Managements Association V. Janardhan Reddy said the GO enhancing the renewal fee of schools was struck down by the High Court. In a statement, he said the amended rules of enhancement of inspection fee was applicable to only new schools or those seeking upgradation. However, the Directorate of School Education enhanced the fee from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 20,000 for higher sections and Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 10,00 - Staff Reporter

Tirupati-Horsley Hills tour package

MADANAPALLE: Tourism divisional Manager Sesha Reddy told reported that a separate package tour will be conducted from Tirupati to the tourist centre of Horsley Hills. The package tour will be operational on Saturdays and Sundays only. The fares will be Rs. 250 per head for adults and Rs. 200 per child. Horsley Hills Manager Prasad Reddy and supervisor Appala Naidu were also present at the press meet.- Correspondent

KURNOOL: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy will attend the wedding of daughter of Kurnool MP Kotla Suryaprakasa Reddy and Dhone MLA Kotla Sujatha here on Saturday. Two killed in road accident

KADAPA: Two motorcyclists bound for the hill resort, Horseley Hills, were killed when an APSRTC bus knocked down the two-wheeler at Erukalonimitta on Kadapa-Chittoor border on Thursday evening. Shameer Khan, (19), of Chinnamandem Kaspa working as a silk worker at Mumbai died instantly and his relative Khasim Basha, (35), of Sakibanda succumbed to severe injuries at Madanapalle Government hospital, according to the police.- Staff Reporter

AISF burns YSR's effigy

KADAPA: AISF activists burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Even Roads junction here on Friday demanding scrapping of G.O. 60 which stipulated filling of teaching and non-teaching staff through outsourcing. AISF district secretary N. Narasimhulu alleged that Government plans to privatise residential schools. As they were agitating for regularisation, the Government planned to remove them and fill the posts through outsourcing, he alleged. - Staff Reporter
