MYSORE: A two-day national workshop on Technician Education will begin at Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) in Mysore on April 15. It is being jointly organised by JSS Polytechnic for Women and SJCE. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, principal of JSS Polytechnic for Women H.B. Basavaraju said the objective of the workshop is to elucidate ways to equip students to cater to industrial needs and to consolidate policies and strategies. There are about 1,000 engineering colleges and 1,215 polytechnics in the country offering education to an estimated three lakh engineering students and 2.12 lakh polytechnic students. The workshop will look into prospects and constraints in technical education, the need to modify obsolete methodologies and meeting industrial needs through academic and practical training. It will be inaugurated by World Bank consultant and former Vice-Chancellor of Hindu Benaras University C.S. Jha at 10 a.m. at SJCE campus on Saturday. Vice-Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Lucknow, D.S. Chouhan; Director of Technical Education, Bangalore, K. Basavaraju; and former Director of IIT, Madras, L.S. Srinath, will participate in the inaugural. Director (Technical) of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, M.H. Dhananjaya, will preside over the function.
