NEW DELHI: Nahar Group plans to invest Rs. 1,050 crore by 2008 to implement its ambitious expansion plan and realise the dream of developing an integrated textile park over 550 acres near Lalru, Patiala District, Punjab. "The group is creating the entire necessary infrastructure for setting up and smooth running of existing as well as new textile units in the park. "Nahar had already made an investment of Rs. 1,500 crore in developing this textile park and had plans to invest another Rs. 1,050 crore by 2008," Kamal Oswal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Nahar Industrial Enterprises Ltd, said in a statement. Under the expansion plan, likely to cost more than Rs. 1,050 crore, the group proposes to set up new spinning units with a capacity of 1.25 lakh spindles, 4,320 rotors, 250 air jet looms and process house with a capacity of one lakh metres a day, besides setting up new power projects with a capacity of 21 MW. After implementing this expansion programme, the group would have in this textile city 2.75 lakh spindles, 6,120 rotors, 676 air jet looms, process house with a capacity of two lakh metres a day, mercerising unit with a capacity of 2,040 tonnes per annum, denim manufacturing unit with a capacity of 20 million metres a day besides 38 MW co-generation power plant, Mr. Oswal said. Out of the 550 acres made available by the Punjab Government in 1994 for developing the industrial park at Lalru, about 400 acres had been allotted to various industrial units of the Nahar Group which had used it for creating an integrated textile complex having state-of-the-art facilities covering spinning, weaving, processing, dying and denim manufacturing. The group companies Nahar Industrial Enterprises Limited (NIEL), Nahar Exports Limited (NEL), Nahar Spinning Mills Limited (NSML) and Oswal Woollen Mills Limited (OWM) have already invested Rs. 1,500 crore to set up more than 1.50 lakh spindles, 1,800 rotors, 426 air jet looms for weaving griege fabrics, process house with a capacity of one lakh metres a day, mercerising unit with a capacity of 2,040 tonnes and denim manufacturing unit with a capacity of 20 million metres per annum.
