HYDERABAD: The joint action committee of employees, workers and teachers have decided to stage demonstrations at Gachibowli on the city outskirts on May 3 in protest against the conduct of the 39th annual general meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the State.
Posters released
Similar demonstrations would also be organised at all district and mandal headquarters the same day. This will be preceded by regional conventions at Warangal and Visakhapatnam on April 15, Vijayawada and Kurnool (April 22) and Tirupati (April 29) to educate people about the harmful policies of the ADB. The JAC members, S. Veeraiah (CITU), T. Narasimhan (AITUC) and others released posters against the ADB meet in the city. Speaking to reporters, they alleged that though the Asian Development Bank, World Bank and the International Monetary Fund function under different names, their policies were similar. They impose the same conditionalities to weaken the public sector and encourage private sector. While the country was obtaining loans in several forms from the ADB, the State Government was also making efforts to secure loans from the bank. It was in this context that the annual general meeting of the Bank was being held in the State, they said.
