KOLLAM: A tusker, Vinayshankar, specially brought here from Thrissur to carry the `thidambu' of the Asramam Sri Krishnaswamy Temple for the Kollam Pooram rituals ran amok at the temple precincts. The tusker was soon shot with a tranquilliser and brought under control. No one was injured. It was while being prepared to bear the `thidambu' that the tusker suddenly ran amok with four persons astride. The tusker ran into the temple courtyard and lugged at the flag mast, slightly damaging it. Technical adviser to the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals B. Aravind immediately shot a tranquilliser dart at the tusker. The elephant soon came under control. It was then taken outside the temple precincts and tethered.
