Quality, not quantity, is vital: Barnala

"Achievements of Integral Coach Factory due to employees' efforts"

CHENNAI: Meeting the targets alone will not make an organisation tall; it is the quality of service that takes it to great heights, Governor Surjit Singh Barnala said on Saturday.

At the 51st Railway Week Celebrations, organised by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) here, he paid tributes to the coach manufacturing unit, which, he said, had come a long way since it was started in 1955. He described as a great achievement the production of 1,175 coaches against the targeted 1109 during 2005-2006. The unit also manufactured 36,420 shells with more than 200 varieties, including a challenging product mix of different varieties of coaches. On the export front too, it was doing well. The achievements were due to the employees' efforts.

Mr. Barnala released the booklet containing the names of the winners of awards for meritorious service and presented trophies and shields. Earlier, he visited an exhibition of photographs depicting various milestones of the ICF.

ICF General Manager P. Raja Goundan said the factory was awarded the MRVC contract for manufacture of 158 nine-car rakes of world class commuter coaches, AC-DC EMU, to meet the ever increasing transport needs of Mumbai's suburban rail network. Another project was the manufacture of coaches for the new line in Jammu and Kashmir.
