THENI: Chief Minister and the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate for the Andipatti constituency, Jayalalithaa, filed her nomination with the Returning Officer for Andipatti S. Suriyanarayanan at his office in Theni Collectorate here on Saturday. After signing the nomination papers, she read out the pledge before the Returning Officer.
"Chances bright"
Talking to mediapersons before launching her campaign in Andipatti, Ms. Jayalalithaa said the AIADMK's chances were very bright and it would win a majority of seats. Asked whether an effective campaign by national leaders would dampen her prospects, Ms. Jayalalithaa said this was an election for the State Assembly and to decide who was going to rule the State. Later, campaigning in Kunoor she said that she came to her home seeking votes. She had already fulfilled the promises made to them, the Chief Minister said. Chennai Special Correspondent reports: A total of 175 candidates including the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary K.Anbazhagan filed their nominations. Many of the Cabinet Ministers, including Law Minister D.Jayakumar, Industries Minister Nainar Nagenthran and Minister for Rural Industries B.Valarmathi filed their nomination papers. Among other candidates who filed their nominations were Minister for Textiles V.Somasundaram (Uthiramerur), Minister for Animal Husbandry P.V.Damodaran (Pongalur) and Hindu Religious and Endowment Minister P.C.Ramasamy (Modakurichi). Several ruling party candidates also chose to submit their papers on Saturday. Mr.Anbazhagan filed his nomination for the Harbour constituency in Chennai, while the Law Minister Jayakumar filed his papers for the Royapuram seat. Film actor S.Ve.Sekar submitted his nomination papers as AIADMK candidate for Mylapore.
