Gulf Dirt Track National meet: Mangalore leg from today

MANGALORE: The Mangalore leg of the Gulf Dirt Track National championship will be held here from Sunday. More than 120 riders from all over India, especially Nasik, Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Mysore, Hyderabad and Jodhpur will vie for honours in a dozen categories. A cash prize of approximately Rs. 95,000 as well as trophies are up for grabs.

The city is hosting the event after a gap of two years. However, the craze for motor sport has not dwindled, as was seen from a large gathering which came to see the competitors try out the track on the B. Yenepoya School premises at Jeppina Mogeru near here.

Srikanth Karani of Sportscraft, organiser of the event, said the first day of the two-day event was used for procedural matters, including documentation checking, scrutiny of vehicles, briefing the riders.
