Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended in some parts of Ennore between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday for maintenance work.

Workshop on creative writing

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan will conduct a two-day workshop on creative writing for children studying from standards VII to IX starting April 22. Sakatapuram Acharya's visit

Jagadguru Sri Sankaracharya Swamigal of Sakatapuram is camping at Madras Sanskrit College up to April 25. A press release issued by the college said a function would be organised on April 23 to celebrate the Swamigal completing 25 years as `Peetadhipati'.

During his stay, the Acharya will be performing daily pujas and giving discourses at 7-30 p.m.

Elected Lions Governor

K.Ranganaathan, builder, has been elected as district governor of Lions Clubs International district 324 A5. Dr.K.Girish, neurosurgeon, has been elected as vice district governor for the year 2006-07.

Students valedictory

The departmental clubs of Alpha Arts and Science College in Porur recently conducted their valedictory and farewell programmes for outgoing students. The college principal K.P.Johny presided over functions. The faculty and junior students proposed toast to the seniors.

Held under Goondas Act

The Chennai Metropolitan police on Saturday detained a 54-year-old man Munikumar under the Goondas Act. A release from the police said G. Munikumar used to identify vacant plots on the city's outskirts and allegedly create power of attorney documents. After changing the names, he used to register the power of attorney document.
