Opposition politicising the issue: Minister

Staff Reporter

`Government reasonable in offering three packages'

  • Government ready for talks, says Konathala Ramakrishna
  • Dangles goodies to the agitating fishermen
  • Minister appeals to Opposition not to precipitate the issue

VISAKHAPATNAM: Minister for Commercial Taxes Konathala Ramakrishna on Saturday charged the Opposition parties with trying to politicise the Gangavaram port issue.

He said the Government was quite reasonable in offering three packages to fishermen and stated that they were still ready for talks.

The options included rehabilitation package, job offer and construction of a jetty at Yarada or jetty at 600 metres north of Nalamaramma Patalu or relocation of Gangavaram villagers with rehabilitation and no offer for employment.

Appealing to Opposition leaders not to precipitate the problem, the Minister said the fishermen should see reason in the Government's commitment to solve the problem. He said the doors of the Government were always open to find a reasonable settlement to the Gangavaram issue.
