Students of Hidaya Public School, Kozhikode, organised a study tour to Plachimada and Puthusserry in Palakkad district as part of `Chaliyar Fete '06,' a two-month programme to revive the Chaliyar river. The students were given a reception under the leadership of the Divisional Forest Officer at Forest School, Walayar, Palakkad district. The students expressed solidarity with the hunger strike being staged by social activist Medha Patkar by sending her 1,000 paper boats. As many as 500 students of the school from Class I onwards made the boats with the slogan `River is freedom, flow is truth.' As part of the fete, which will be on till June 5, a workshop is being held at the school on construction of houses using scientifically prepared `stabilised earth block' as an alternative to river sand. Architect R.K. Ramesh is providing guidelines to the students at the workshop.
Wins award
MES Raja Residential School, Pavangad, won the Best School Award for 2005-06 among the MES chain of schools in the State. The award is given in recognition of over-all achievement in academic, co-curricular activities, sports, and for securing maximum distinctions in Class X Board examinations. It was a moment of pride for MES State general secretary P.A. Fazal Gafoor, MES State president K.K. Aboobacker, school chairman C.K. Muhammed, secretary V.P. Abdurahman, Principal Ajitha Hemachandran and headmistress Hermine Rasheed and the teachers and students of the school. The school had many academic achievements during 2005-06. As many as 63 of the 65 students who appeared for the Class XII Board examinations scored first class. All the 72 students who appeared the Class X Board examinations secured first class. In the MES Sports Meet, the school came first in 100 m race, second in 200 m race, and third in 100 m, 400 m, high jump and relay. The school also won the overall championship in the All Kerala MES Kids' Fest (North Zone), and won many prizes and the `Kalathilakam' title in the All Kerala MES Fest.
