MANGALORE: The Federation of University and College Teachers' Associations in Karnataka (FUCTAK) has objected to the State Government's move to disburse the salary of college teachers deputed to bifurcated Pre-University section through the Pre-University Board. A.M. Narahari, president of the federation, and B. S. Makal, general secretary, said in a press release that the Government bifurcated Pre-University courses from composite degree colleges in 2001. Surplus teachers in the degree section were deputed to Pre-University section on the condition that they would be redeployed to the degree section as and when the vacancies arise. The Government had promised that they would be re-deployed within two years by protecting their service conditions. Their salary would be disbursed through their parent college as they have been appointed by the Directorate of Collegiate Education. But later, contrary to the assurances, the process of redeploying became slow and at present there are nearly 1,200 college teachers serving in Pre-University section. Now there is an attempt to disburse the salary of such teachers through the Pre-University Board, the release said. ``The FUCTAK condemns this move and urges the Government to restore the earlier system. Agitation programmes will become inevitable if the government fails to retrace its move," the release added.
