KOLLAM: The District Congress Committee (DCC) said in a statement here on Sunday that all preparations had been made for extending a rousing reception to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who arrives here on Tuesday to campaign for the United Democratic Front candidates in the district. She will address a campaign meeting at the Congress Bhavan grounds. DCC president Sooranad Rajashekaran said the public were most welcome to attend the meeting. Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel had taken over the ground and adopted security measures. Ms. Gandhi will address the public from the Nehru Mantap, constructed in 1962 in memory of Jawaharlal Nehru's visit to Kollam that year. Since Ms. Gandhi will be arriving here in the afternoon, a pandal has been erected over the Congress Bhavan grounds with special permission from the SPG. She will arrive by helicopter at the Asramam Maidan at 1 p.m. and travel by road to the venue of the meeting. In addition to Ms. Gandhi, only five persons are permitted to be seated on the dais. They are Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala, the former KPCC presidents C.V. Padmarajan and Thennala Balakrishna Pillai and Mr. Rajashekaran.
