Four killed, nine hurt in accident

HASSAN: Four persons, including two children, were killed and nine were injured when the sports utility vehicle by which they were travelling rammed a roadside tree near Ramanasagara of Arsikere taluk on Saturday night, according to the police.

The police gave the names of the dead as Vinod (45), Ashok (50), Chikku (7) and Chinnu (9), residents of HAL Layout, Bangalore.

While Ashok and Vinod died on the spot, Chikku and Chinnu died on their way to hospital. The injured have been shifted to Bangalore for treatment. The Arsikere rural police, who registered a case, said the victims were returning after visiting temples in Chikmagalur district.

32 injured

In another incident, over 32 people were injured when the truck, which was carrying them, fell into a gorge near Mallipatna in Arkalgud taluk. The occupants of the truck were going to Kudlur from Ramenahalli of Arkalgud taluk.

The injured have been admitted to Arkalgud hospital, according to the police.
