Plot to kill ex-CMC chief unearthed

The accused felt safe inside Central Jail

BELLARY: The arrest of six persons by the Bellary police have exposed a "supari" conspiracy to kill the former president of Bellary City Municipal Council (CMC) Kumaraswamy, according to Pankaj Kumar Thakur, Superintendent of Police.

Mr. Thakur told presspersons here on Sunday that Jaggu,

Degalpadu Narayan and Malkanna, who were in the Central Jail on charges of murdering of Raghavendra, former nominated councillor and son of Kumaraswamy, had hatched a plan to finish off the former CMC president apprehending that he would avenge his son being killed.

All the three, with the help of their associates, contacted Guntakal Ramanjini for the job on a consideration of Rs. 3 lakh and an advance of Rs. 45,000 was paid to him. Ramanjini was shown the house of Kumaraswamy too. Even after a month of giving the supari contract, nothing materialised and the three sent word to their associates to contact Ramanjini through Diwakar, to accomplish the early.

Meanwhile, Shekshawali, a neighbour of Kumarswamy, went to meet Jaggu, Narayan and Malkanna and asked why they had not opted for bail. In reply, Malkanna is said to have informed him that they feared coming out as Mr. Kumaraswamy was likely to harm them and disclosed about the plan hatched by them besides requesting him to contact Diwakar to get the work expedited.

Suspecting danger, Shekshawali informed Mr. Kumaraswamy and the police.

Gandhi Nagar police, who registered a case, stepped up vigil. Based on credible information that a gang of five were trying to way lay the jeeps and car on Moka Road, the police rushed to spot on Saturday night and nabbed six persons and recovered weapons from them.

After interrogation, the arrested - Mala Ramanjini (25) a painter from Vajrakarur in Anantapur district; Veeraiah Swamy (46) from Guntakal; Sudhakar (30), an autorickshaw driver in Bellary; Krishta (25) from Kurnool; Srinivas (18), a student from Guntakal; and Abdul Razak (35), hamali from Kurnool — reportedly admitted about the supari killing plan.
