Action plan to tackle water scarcity ready

Government released Rs. 1 crore from Calamity Relief Fund

  • Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with elected representatives and officials

    Raichur: The district administration has prepared an action plan for Rs. 3 crore to augment drinking water supply in rural areas this summer.

    According to official sources, the Government has released Rs. 1 crore under Calamity Relief Fund for emergency supply of drinking water. It released another Rs. 1.30 crore to the zilla panchayat to implement the Integrated Rural Water Supply (IRWS) scheme under Minimum Need Programme (MNP) to solve drinking water problem in 164 gram panchayats in all the five taluks in the district.

    The district administration had hoped to get Rs. 1.50 crore from the Government for augmenting drinking water supply schemes in all the problem villages coming under the six Assembly segments in the district.

    The work under this programme would be implemented as per the suggestions made by elected representatives of the respective Assembly segments.

    Deputy Commissioner Tushar Girinath, at a meeting of officials of all concerned department on Saturday, had received some proposals from the elected representatives on the need to augment drinking water supply through tankers to about 80 problem villages in Lingsugur, Deodurga, Raichur and Kalmala Assembly segments in the district. The Deputy Commissioner had decided to order for transportation of drinking water after getting reports from all the tahsildars concerned.

    Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner had released Rs. 1.30 crores with an equal share to 164 gram panchayats for implementing IRWS scheme. The gram panchayats would have to take up the work in their respective areas as was suggested by the members concerned of the zilla panchayat. The gram panchayats had been empowered to clear the bills of each work on receipt of completion certificate from the department concerned.
