Condition of Muslims better in BJP-ruled States: Advani

Staff Reporter

Alleges Congress has never taken their welfare seriously

  • Says Muslims have excelled in all fields
  • Cites examples of Kalam, Sania and Pathan

ANANTAPUR : BJP leader L.K. Advani on Saturday urged the Muslim community to shed its `undue affection' for Congress as the party had never taken their welfare seriously. Their condition would not have been so bad had the Congress worked for them all these years, he said.

Addressing a public meeting at Hindupur in the district on Saturday night as part of his Bharat Suraksha Yatra, he claimed that Muslims' condition was better in the BJP-ruled States.

He mentioned that India was a country where the Muslim community had excelled in all fields from politics to sportspersons to science and technology. He cited examples of President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, sports stars Sania Mirza and Irfan Pathan making it to the top in their chosen fields.

However, he opposed census in the armed forces on the basis of religion as it would be a degenerating exercise. He appealed to the Muslims to hand over the disputed land in Ayodhya for construction of Ram temple.Mr. Advani also stated that he had learned a lot through rath yatras. He also described such yatras an opportunity to meet people at their end.
