Water scheme sanctioned

The scheme aims to cover all the fluoride-affected villages

  • As a result consumption of power goes up considerably
  • YSR stresses the need for installing capacitors for all the pumpsets

    KUSUMANCHI (Khammam dt): Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has sanctioned a new water scheme costing Rs. 20 crores in Kusumanchi mandal on Sunday. Addressing a public meeting as part of the Praja Patham programme, he said that the new scheme was aimed at covering people in all the fluoride-affected villages in the mandal.

    Some villages in the mandal were provided with safe drinking water by constructing protected water schemes at a cost of Rs. 10 crores last year.

    Top priority

    He said that the Praja Patham programme was aimed at attending on the basic needs in the villages. The drinking water problem was accorded top priority. He said that the borewells were yielding water following the improvement in the ground water table. As a result the consumption of power went up considerably and the demand also touched 17 crore units a day.

    The State had been spending Rs. 5 crores to Rs. 7 crores a day additionally to meet the ever-increasing demand for power. The agriculture services were being given seven hours of supply. The Chief Minister stressed the need for installing the capacitors for all the pumpsets. He said about five per cent of the farmers responded to the call and installed the capacitors and the rest were expected to do so in due course.

    He said the DWCRA groups would get loans to the tune of Rs. 3,000 crores at 25 paise interest this year. Every mandal would get an allocation of Rs. 3 crores for this purpose.
