KARAIKAL: The Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam have fielded its five sitting MLAs including a Minister to contest from their respective Assembly constituencies out of the six Assembly seats in Karaikal district in the Union Territory of Pondicherry. The AIADMK-led front has fielded new faces in all the six Assembly segments. Under the Congress-DMK alliance, the Congress is contesting the four Assembly seats of Nedungadu, Tirunallar, Karaikal (South) and Kottucherry and the DMK the two seats of Neravy and Karaikal (North). The Congress has fielded its three sitting MLAs to contest from their home constituencies -- M.Chandrakasu (Minister for Industries and Welfare) from Nedungadu (Reserved) constituency, R.Kamalakannan from Tirunallar and A.V.Subramanian (Deputy Speaker of Pondicherry Assembly) from Karaikal (South). The Congress has also fielded P.R.N.Thirumurugan (son of Nalamaharajan, former MLA who passed away recently) from Kottucherry constituency. The DMK has fielded its two sitting MLAs -- V.M.C.Sivakumar, a former Minister, from his home Neravy constituency and A.M.H.Nazeem from his home constituency of Karaikal (North). M.Chandrakasu (Minister for Industries and Welfare) and A.V.Subramanian (Deputy Speaker of Pondicherry Assembly) from the Congress and V.M.C.Sivakumar (a former Minister) of the DMK who have won the seats several times, are the key contestants in this poll. In the AIADMK-led front, the AIADMK is contesting the three seats of Kottucherry, Neravy and Karaikal (North) and allocated the remaining three seats to the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), Puduchery Munnetra Congress (PMC) and Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) to contest from Tirunallar, Nedungadu (Reserved) and Karaikal (South) respectively.
New faces
The AIADMK has fielded new faces - V.Omalingam (son of Vaithilingam, former MLA) from Kottucherry, G.V.Jayapal from Neravy and S.Selvaganapathy from Karaikal (North).
