BANGALORE: Rashien Samuel of Karnataka and Sharon Paul of Tamil Nadu will be the top seeds in boys and girls sections respectively of the Malleswaram Association-AITA championship series (U-14) tennis tournament, which gets underway at the club courts here on Monday. The finals will be held on April 21.
Nachiket in last four
Nachiket Damankar stormed into the semifinals of the U-10 boys' section of Mehul Sirur memorial badminton championship with a 21-18, 21-9 victory over S. Sudeep at the Canara Union courts here on Sunday. He also made it to the doubles semifinals, partnering S. Suraj. They beat Subramanya and Anurag 21-14, 21-8. In the girls' section, Reshma Karthik, C.P.S. Jeevana and Preethi moved into the last four. The results: Boys: Nachiket bt S. Sudeep 21-18, 21-9; Mithun Manjunath bt Likith 21-8, 21-11; Sankeerth bt Anirudh Deshpande 21-4,21-18; Suraj Shetty bt Vaishsita 21-7, 21-2. Girls: Reshma Karthik bt Nalini Mittal 21-1, 21-2; C.P.S. Jeevana bt Revathi 21-19, 21-9; Preethi bt Priya 21-15, 21-10.
Boniface wins Florida title
Boniface Prabhu clinched the Florida Open super series I wheelchair tennis title at West Bay, U.S. last Sunday. In the final, he defeated local lad Christopher Olbert 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. Earlier, in the Pensacola tournament, Boniface lost in the final to Arraya Pablo of Chile 3-6, 6-4, 1-6.
