Karan spoils Santhosh's party

MANGALORE: Sixteen-year-old Karan Kadam spoilt what would have otherwise been a fine day for teammate C.S. Santhosh in the first leg of Gulf dirt track National championship on Sunday. Karan's victory in the private expert championship (foreign motorcycles up to 250cc Group `A' - race 2) denied Santhosh the chance to pick up his fourth title.

Santosh had earlier won the Indian expert championship (foreign motorcycles) on his TVS 250X and the first and second races in the Indian Expert Championship on a TVS Shaolin. Karan was riding a TVS 125X compared to the TVS 250X of Santosh in the final race of the day.

A fall by Santhosh on the eighth lap allowed Karan to overtake the former, who earlier had fought back to wrest the early lead that T.K. Vishwanath (Yamaha 250) had got. Local boy K.P. Arvind gave the home crowd a lot to cheer about with second and third place finishes in the novice championships.

Arvind also picked up a podium finish in the non-championship events, namely local class motorcycles up to 160cc Group `D' four-stroke and local class motorcycles between 80cc-150 cc Group `D' 2-stroke. Nearly 120 riders took part.
