Thunderbolts claim 10 lives

Victims include four women

HYDERABAD: Ten persons, including four women, were killed in four districts by thunderbolts on Sunday. The toll includes three persons each in Medak, Nalgonda and Srikakulam districts and a woman in Mahabubnagar.

In Khazipalli of Medak, Kistaiah was killed while in Kandi, Vittal and Nagamani lost their lives. Heavy rain and hailstorms lashed Sangareddy mandal, particularly Indrakaran and Cheryal areas. Most areas were in darkness as power supply was disrupted.

In Nalgonda, two women and a man died and four others were injured.

Vallala Nagamma (42) and her son Shankar (23) died on the spot, as they took cover under a tree. A woman, Padma, was hospitalised with injuries.

Ramawath Jyothi (23), who was grazing sheep at Nadim thanda in Nalgonda district died after being hit by lightning. G.Naveen (14), D. Raja (16) and D. Sai were killed and five others injured at Amaram village in Rajam mandal, Vizianagaram. While the deceased went to collect palmyra fruit, the injured were working in the fields.

At Sadagodu in Mahabubnagar Ratnamma (45) was killed and nine others were injured, as they took shelter under a tree.
