Easter celebrated with prayers in Kozhikode city

Morning mass held at various churches

KOZHIKODE: Midnight masses, in which devotees participated in large numbers, and communion services in the morning in churches marked the celebration of Easter in the city.

Mass was organised at the Mother of God cathedral, St. Mary's Jacobite Syrian Church, St.Joseph's Church, Mankave, Holy Redeemer Church, Marykunnu, among others.

The risen Christ was the theme of the messages delivered during the worship at the churches.

At the St.Mary's CSI church at Nadakkave, Bishop of the Church of South India (North Diocese) George Issac delivered the sermon. He dealt on the risen Christ and the relevance of Christians in a pluralistic society consisting of different castes, creeds and religions. The service in the morning at the CSI Cathedral at Mananchira was led by chief vicar Rev.Paul David. Rev.Vincent Moses delivered the sermon.

Midnight and morning mass was celebrated at the Mother of God Cathedral and the St.Joseph's Church among other churches in the city.

Bishop of the Latin Catholic Diocese Rev.Joseph Kalathiparambil led the mass at the Mother of God Cathedral.

Easter worship was also organised at the Marthoma church in the city.

The Easter celebrations preceded the rituals in connection with the Holy Week commencing from Maundy Thursday.

This was followed by day-long fasting and prayers on Good Friday. Catholic churches had observed the Way of the Cross ritual.

Parishioners of the Mother of God Cathedral, St.Joseph's Church, among other churches, observed the Way of the Cross ritual on Good Friday.
