Textbooks distribution function

NEW DELHI: Tarun Mitra Parishad held its 31st Annual Text-Book Distribution Function at Pearey Lal Bhavan here on Sunday. Several needy students were provided text books, help books, notebooks and stationary.

The Subodh Chand Jain Memorial Award and the Shrikishan Gupta Memorial Awards were presented to four handicapped meritorious students, while 12 other needy meritorious students were awarded silver medals. Scholarships up to Rs. 1,500 were also given to 134 disadvantaged students.

Baby show

NEW DELHI: At the inauguration of Wisdom World Preparatory School at Vasundhara in neighbouring Ghaziabad, a Grand Baby Show was organised on its campus on Sunday. The show that was inaugurated by senior journalist, Ram Bahadur Rai, saw the participation of several children from the locality. Speaking at the occasion, the school's Director M.P. Kamal highlighted the amenities provided by the school including a day-boarding facility.

Mr. Kamal also promised to provide free education to those who are unable to pay the fee.

IGNOU sets up

regional centre

NEW DELHI: A Regional Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been set up at Port Blair with Study Centres at Rangat, Hut Bay, Kamorta and Campbell Bay. The announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor IGNOU H.P. Dikshit here on Friday.

Mr. Dikshit added that IGNOU and Indian Space Research Organisation were working hard to provide the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with the national transmission of IGNOU through EduSat connectivity. `Cancer linked with obesity'

NEW DELHI: Heart Care Foundation of India president K.K. Aggarwal has said that there was a direct association between high cholesterol levels and prostrate cancer.

At a function here on Saturday, he quoted from an Italian study published in the online edition of the Annals of Oncology and said researchers have discovered that those suffering with prostrate cancer, particularly older men, were twice as likely to have high cholesterol than those without.

Child welfare institution

NEW DELHI: Des Raj Campus, a child welfare institution looking after orphan boys and girls, has added an extra floor to its existing Chandra Arya Vidya Mandir hostel here.

The new floor was inaugurated on Saturday. With the generous assistance of Dwarka Dass Mittal Charitable Trust, the extra floor is housing 100 beds so as to provide extra accommodation.
