Powerloom textile park will be set up at Sivagiri: Elangovan

ERODE: With only few days left for the Assembly elections to the State, campaign is hotting up in the district with various political leaders meeting the voters. The Union Minister of State for Textile, E.V.K.S. Elangovan, on Sunday visited Avalpoondurai, Arachalure, Sivagiri and Thandampalayam areas promising that a powerloom textile park would be started in Sivagiri area.

He also inaugurated the party's election office at Avalpoondurai and Sivagiri and campaigned for R.M. Palanisamy, the candidate for the Modakurichi constituency. He also visited few villages.

In Gobichettipalayam, the AIADMK candidate, K.A. Sengottiyan, campaigned on an open jeep.

In Bhavanisagar, the AIADMK candidate, Sindhu Ravichandran, along with the former MLA, V.K. Chinnasamy, toured Nambiyur, Bhavanisagar, Dhoddampalayam and nearby villages.

The DMK and Congress candidates will file their nominations on April 17. The Bhavanisagar AIADMK candidate and Sathyamangalam MDMK candidate will also file their nominations on Monday.

Heavy rain

Due to heavy rain in Erode, Bhavani and Gobichettipalayam on Sunday, electioneering was affected. For the second day, Erode town experienced heavy gale in the evening and a number of pandals were uprooted. Vehicular traffic on Brough Road, Gandhiji Road and in the Bus stand area was stopped for some time. There was heavy rain for an hour and because of this, candidates and their partymen could not go for canvassing.
