CHENNAI:
Montfort Community Development Society (MCDS), an integrated community programme of the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel, Yercaud, has proposed to launch a clinic-on-wheels to assist the less privileged.
Partnering with St. Isabel's Hospital, the clinic will bring health care to the doorstep of 15,000 families in Okkiyam Toraipakkam (Kannagi Nagar), which includes 5,000 families affected by the tsunami. The aim is to reach out to the resettled residents of Chemencheri also.
40-seater bus
The 40-seater bus has been designed as a clinic and contains an examination bed, dressing table, oxygen cylinders, stretchers and cabinets to hold medical equipment and medicines. A portable ophthalmic and dental unit will also be set up in the bus.
MCDS runs several programmes for children, youth and women in coastal Chennai in partnership with Andhra Mahila Sabha, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Sankara Hospital and Bhaskar Dental Foundation.
