Swamy demands action against those responsible for stuffing rolls
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Sunday demanded that the Election Commission take action against politicians guilty of stuffing the electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu.
"I know that the Commission has the list. I demand that it take action," he told presspersons here.
If the Commission did not take action, he would move the courts, Dr. Swamy said.
Party's State president V.S.Chandralekha would file her nomination papers for Mylapore on Monday. She would also address a gathering outside the Kapaleeswarar temple the same day.
Dr. Swamy contested Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's claim that the State was the best administered in the past five years.
"According to a survey conducted by the National Council of Applied Economic Research, the diversion of food grains and kerosene from the fair price shops to the open market is as high as 15.66 per cent and 46.4 per cent respectively. Unemployment rate and rural poverty is very high ... , despite Tamil Nadu being traditionally relatively highly educated."
He said the World Bank had discontinued support for the project on child health because of corruption.
