Chennai: Summer holidays are here. The sprawling campus of the Mylapore Club on Luz Church Road is now bustling with activity. The club has scheduled a series of sports camps for children to keep them busy for the next eight weeks. Coaching in cricket, shuttle badminton, chess and bridge are offered. "We have about 250 children visiting the club daily for various coaching camps," said V.M. Ramalingam, Club Committee Member for Sports. Children above six years with an aptitude for indoor or outdoor games are invited to enrol themselves for the camps. Coaching for cricket buffs in the 6-10 years category is held every day from 6.30 a.m. to 8.45 a.m. on weekdays. Basic training for 11-13 year old children is from 3 p.m. to 5.45 p.m. Advanced cricket coaching is offered by coach V. B. Chandrasekar between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This has a special attraction as the pitch is lit up by floodlights. For those interested in shuttle badminton, a two-month camp begins on April 15. The classes are open to children above eight years and the fee is Rs. 750 per month. Children who prefer indoor games also have their own slot. Chess camps for boys and girls above eight years are being held in four batches in April and May. A fee of Rs. 300 is charged for 12 classes. In a bid to attract young participants, the club has free coaching camps for them. Women get a 50 per cent discount. For details, call 24995315.
