Miscreants disrupt prayer meeting

Staff Correspondent

The reason for the attack is being investigated

MANGALORE: A group of nearly 30 people reportedly barged into a hall located on Mission Compound at Balmatta here on Sunday and disrupted a prayer meeting that was going on. The group allegedly caused extensive damage to property on the premises of the hall including chairs and public address system before fleeing the place.

B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police, who visited the spot told The Hindu that the exact reason for which the attack was carried out is being ascertained. "The group only caused physical damage to the hall where the meeting was going on. None of those present at the hall were attacked," he said and added that the attack was apparently against the ongoing religious activities.

When asked to identity the group responsible for the incident, Mr. Dayananda without directly naming any group said it could be a pro-Hindu outfit. "More facts will come out only once the investigations are over. All steps have been taken to identify the culprits and bring them to book," he added.

Stating that a group had previously demonstrated against such activities, Mr. Dayananda said however no case had been taken up at that time.
