COIMBATORE: A marine engineer who lost his job owing to severe arthritis in both the hip joints is sailing again after undergoing hip resurfacing surgery.
Unable to walk
Jude Elango of Nagercoil sails for six months a year. He was all at sea due to the hip problem while sailing. He could not sit, squat, climb a ladder, walk even short distances or sleep without pain. A press release from the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) said Mr. Elango was offered the option of hip replacement surgery but was warned against sitting on the floor or climb stairs before approaching this hospital. The Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon of the KMCH, S.G. Thirumalaisamy, offered him the option of hip resurfacing operation.
Gets job back
The release said that the surgery rid Mr. Elango of the problem, and he got his job back. He was now sailing to European countries.
