HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad police on Sunday arrested two police constables and a home guard on the charge of extorting money from a person and his friend at Shamirpet on Saturday night.

Francis was returning to the city along with his family friend after attending a party in a club at Shamirpet when the police constables -- S. Mahender, 31, and D. Pandaraiah, 28, -- accompanied by home guard K. Balaswamy, 29, who were in a Cyberabad highway-patrolling vehicle, allegedly intercepted them on the pretext of frisking them.

The policemen later took them to Anthayepally forest area where they demanded Rs. 1,500 from Francis. When he expressed his inability to pay the amount, the police personnel allegedly threatened him with dire consequences.

They also misbehaved with his friend, Shamirpet Inspector T. Venkanna said.

The policemen, however, agreed to release them after Francis, a private employee, promised them to pay the amount after withdrawing from an ATM centre. The trio took him to an ATM centre at Thoomkunta village in Shamirpet where Francis withdrew Rs. 1,500.

After taking the amount, the police personnel released Francis and his friend.

They also warned him that serious action would be taken against him if he informed the matter to the higher officials. But, Francis straight away came to the police station and lodged a complaint, the Inspector said.

Based on his complaint, the police registered cases under Sections 392 (robbery), 365 (kidnapping), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 504 (insulting) against the constables and home guard and arrested them. All the three policemen were working in the Shamirpet police station.
