Coimbatore: The students wing of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) has hailed the decision of the Union Government to allot 27 per cent reservation for backward classes in Central Government-run higher educational institutions such IIT and IIM. The party has been fighting for reservation for backward classes in such coveted educational institutions. The struggle has now yielded rich dividends, a release from its convenor, P. Pichumani said. To sabotage this milestone in social justice, a group of activists had announced that they would wear black badges when they meet the President and the Union Human Resources Development Minister, he said. To counter any such move, the TPDK had planned to send 5,000 greeting cards to both the President and Union Human Resources Development Minister to express the gratitude of the backward classes, he added.
