AIADMK Govt. cannot claim any achievement: Nallakannu

Staff Reporter

Says Nallakannu

TIRUCHI: Claiming that there was widespread opposition to the ruling AIADMK Government, member of the national executive committee of the Communist Party of India (CPI) R. Nallakannu on Sunday said that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) would win majority of the seats in the coming Assembly elections.

The administration had collapsed during the five-year AIADMK rule and the party cannot claim to have achieved anything during its tenure, Mr. Nallakannu alleged at a press conference here.

Citing the frequent shifting of State Ministers in the AIADMK Cabinet, he said the AIADMK Government did not have a stable nature due to which the Tamil Nadu's growth and development were "affected."

Claiming that the DMK-led DPA enjoyed the support of the masses, Mr. Nallakannu, said the alliance was fighting to remove the "autocratic" AIADMK Government. and form a democratic one in that place.

This message had reached the masses who had come to realise this aspect, he further claimed.

Ever since elections were announced, the cadres of the DPA had been organising meetings at regular intervals to work out the strategy as well as involving themselves in garnering support from the people.

Answering a query, he said the CPI welcomed the DMK's promise in its election manifesto to supply quality rice at Rs. 2 per kilogram as well as two-acre land to the landless poor families. The CPI had expressed its opposition to giving away the wastelands to the corporate sector as it would destroy the village economy and instead urged the AIADMK Government to hand them over to the landless farmers.

The CPI, which has been given 10 seats, had already launched their booth-wise campaign seeking the support of the electorate, he said.
