BANGALORE: The Department of Hindi of Bangalore University in collaboration with Kamala Goenka Foundation and Dipayan organised a literary meet called "Ras-Rang", at the university's Jnana Jyothi Auditorium here on Sunday. Besides Governor T.N. Chaturvedi, the former university Vice-Chancellor, M.S. Thimmappa, attended the event. A gathering of poets, from local and national circles, regaled the audience with their work. The Kamala Goenka Foundation conferred cash awards of Rs. 21,000 and Rs. 11,000 on litterateurs Pradhan Gurudutta and N. Nagappa, respectively, for their contribution to Hindi and Kannada writing. The Governor also felicitated poets Prabhashankar Premi, Shantabai and Tippeswami.
Happy
Dr. Pradhan Gurudutta said, "I am happy that there is a niche for translated works in regional languages today. But there is also a need for more such ventures. Fellowships should be introduced in the field of translation to encourage young and interested students to study literature in regional languages and attempt translations into their parent language." The Governor spoke about the influence of other languages on Hindi, the national language. He also reiterated the importance of translation in literature and as a means of reaching out to the masses at large.
