COLOMBO: At least six persons were killed and 14 others injured in four incidents in Sri Lanka's north-east on Monday. The attacks continued a day after the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) announced suspending participation in the Geneva talks. According to the army, four soldiers were killed in an LTTE claymore explosion in the northern Vavuniya district on Monday. Seven others were injured in this attack. The army said Monday's attack in Vavuniya was the 14th claymore explosion by the LTTE since the sharp escalation of violence on April 8. According to the army 47 persons, 14 of whom were civilians, were killed by the LTTE attacks since the conclusion of the Geneva talks in February.
Meanwhile, Norwegian Special Envoy Jon Hanssen-Bauer is likely to visit Sri Lanka shortly as part of the efforts to work out a compromise.
