Helmet, seat rule to be enforced in Proddatur from April 20

KADAPA: Helmet rule will be enforced strictly in Proddatur municipality from April 20 onwards and there would be no exemption to mopeds, Proddatur DSP S.M. Basha said on Monday.

Two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets would be fined Rs.100 and those speaking on cell phones while riding would be fined Rs.300, he told a press conference at Proddatur. The seat belt is mandatory for those driving cars and occupant of front seat. In case they disobey, a fine of Rs. 500 will be slammed on them. Using cell phones while driving cars would also invite a fine of Rs. 500, he said.

Police took up this drive to safeguard lives of two-wheeler riders, whose lives are lost mostly due to head injuries, Mr. Basha said citing some accident cases of such a nature. Police would conduct awareness meetings for two days and impose fine from April 20, he said. Proddatur urban Circle Inspector Srinivasulu Reddy and One Town CI Venkataramana also took part.
