Police stage flag march in parts of Bangalore

Move to instil confidence among citizens after last week's violence

BANGALORE: The police on Monday staged a flag march in the central parts of Bangalore to instil confidence among the people following the violence that rocked the city last week after the death of Rajkumar.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Bipin Gopalkrishna told The Hindu that the flag march would also send a strong message to criminals that they would not be spared if they indulged in anti-social activities.

The police personnel began the flag march from BRV Parade Grounds at 3 p.m. One group led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) G.B. Chebbi marched through Hudson Circle, Devanga Hostel Road, Mission Road, Sudhamanagar, K.S. Garden, Lalbagh Road, BDA junction, Vyalikaval, Nagappa Street, Bashyam Circle, Cauvery junction, Railway Parallel Road and Nehru Park.

Another group led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) K.V. Sharathchandra went around City Market, Kalasipalya, K.R. Road, Vanivilas Road, Chamarajpet, Mysore Road, Kempe Gowda Road, Gandhinagar and Upparpet.

The flag march disrupted traffic in some areas. It also triggered rumours that violence has again erupted in the city and the police were rushing to the scene of violence. Some anxious people made calls to newspaper offices to ascertain whether there was any trouble in the city.

On Tuesday, beginning 9 a.m., two groups led by Mr. Sharathchandra and Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) P. Muniswamy will go around Magadi Road, Rajkumar Road, Malleswaram, Yeshwantpur, RMC Yard, Goruguntepalya, Outer Ring Road, Subhas Chandra Bose Circle, Nandini Layout, West of Chord Road, Manjunathanagar, Modi Road, Kurubarahalli, Mahalakshmi Layout, Jarkabandekaval, Sri Kanteerava Studios, Sannakkibail and Sunkadakatte.
