Suspended for electioneering

PONDICHERRY: A machine attendant, R. Gopal, working in the Government Central Press, Pondicherry, who was caught canvassing for a political party belonging to the Democratic Progressive Alliance has been placed on suspension and sent to Karaikal. According to a press release from the District Election Officer and District Collector, G Theva Needhi Dhas, the Election Vigilance Squad had videographed the incident on 12 April, following, which the Director of Stationery and Printing had been asked to take appropriate action against him. .

Accordingly the Director has placed the official under suspension and ordered that during the period Gopal should be headquartered in Karaikal. The action has been taken on the basis of complaints received on the alleged involvement of government servants in electioneering, he added.
