Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
PONDICHERRY: There was brisk activity in the Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee office on Monday with the selected candidates making a beeline to meet the party president and senior Congress leader P. Shanmugham to seek his blessings before proceeding to file nominations. Monday was found more auspicious than other days and with the last date to file nominations also approaching fast (April 20) candidates lost no time to complete the formality of filing nominations. Carrying flags of the party and those of the alliance parties Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Communist Party of India and Pattali Makkal Katchi the volunteers thronged the party office and greeted each other. The Congress is contesting 16 seats in Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, sharing the remaining 14 seats with the DMK (11 seats), the PMK (2 seats) and the CPI (one seat).
Taking efforts
These Democratic Progressive Alliance parties are taking efforts to come out with flying colours in the polls. While the first phase of poll would be held in Mahe and Yanam (three constituencies) on May 3 the Pondicherry and Karaikal regions having the remaining 27 constituencies in the 30-member Assembly would have the second phase of poll on May 8.
