Candidates file nomination papers

Madurai Bureau

They include Health Minister N.Thalavai Sundaram (AIADMK) and Pudhiya Tamizhagam leader K. Krishnasamy

Nagercoil: A total of 24 candidates including dummy candidates filed their nomination papers for seven Assembly constituencies namely Kanyakumari, Nagercoil, Colachel, Padmanabhapauram, Thiruvattar, Killiyur and Vilavancode in Kanyakumari district on Monday.

Health Minister N.Thalavai Sundaram and former Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan of the DMK, contesting from Kanyakumari constituency, filed their papers to P.A. to Collector (General) Seenipandi.

AIADMK candidates Pachaimal for Colachel constituency, Kumaradhas for Killiyur constituency, Franklin for Vilavancode constituency and Thilakumar for Thiruvattar constituency field their papers.

The MDMK candidate for Nagercoil constituency Ratinaraj filed his papers.

DMK candidate for Nagercoil constituency Rajan filed his papers to Revenue Divisional Officer Puthisikamani. Congress candidate for Killiyur constituency John Jacob filed his papers to Assistant Commissioner, Excise, Prakash, and the Congress candidate for Colachel constituency Jeyapal filed his papers to Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer Jokeenthar Keeth Prakash.

BJP candidate for Nagercoil constituency Udaya Kumar filed his papers to Revenue Divisional officer, Puthisikamanai.

BJP candidates for Kanyakumari and Colachel constituencies namely Krishnan and M. R. Gandhi filed their papers to PA to Collector (General), Seenipandi.

DMK and BJP candidates for Padmanabhapuram constituency, Theodare Reginald and Velayudham respectively filed their papers to Padmanabhapuram Revenue Divisional Officer Shanmughavel.

The police made elaborate arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. However, cadres of the BJP indulged in a wordy duel with the police in front of the collectorate when they were asked to disperse immediately to facilitate candidates from other parties file their papers.

Tuticorin

Thirteen candidates filed their nomination papers in the district on Monday.

Former MLA and Pudhiya Tamizhagam leader K. Krishnasamy, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate for Ottapidaram constituency, submitted his papers to N. Govindarajulu, Assistant Commissioner (Excise), at the Collectorate.

In his affidavit, he says that he has Rs. 50,000 and his wife K. Chandrika and two children K. Sangeeta and K. Syam collectively have Rs. 40,000.


Besides, he has bank deposits to the tune of Rs. 1,03,639, his wife Rs. 33,970 and Ms. Sangeeta Rs. 58,432. In all, his family has Rs 1.50 lakhs as term deposits with Syndicate Bank, Kuniamuthur branch.

Mr. Krishnasamy possesses shares worth Rs. 15,600 while his wife has shares worth Rs. 31,200 and jewels worth Rs. 6.54 lakh.

The family has LIC policies to the tune of Rs. 16.45 lakh and vehicles such as a Tempo Traveller, Maruti Zen, Qualis and Innova cars.

Congress candidate Rani Venkatesan and MDMK candidate Nazareth Durai for Satankulam constituency filed their papers to R. Guru Rajappa, District Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer. V. Ranjan, a dummy candidate for Mr. Durai also filed his papers.

Ms. Venkatesan is in possession of immovable assets such as land in various parts of the State, a house worth Rs. 12 lakh at Kottivakam, another house worth Rs. 10 lakh at Nagercoil and a bungalow at Kodaikanal. Her husband has two houses. She possesses house sites at Kottivakam (Rs. 20 lakh) and Valsaravakkam (Rs. 25 lakh). She has Rs. five lakh in cash and Rs. 20 lakh in bank while her husband has Rs. one lakh in cash and Rs. 27 lakh in bank account, according to her declaration.

The other candidates who filed their nominations included N. Chinnappan (AIADMK) and V. P. Jeyaraj (BJP), both for Vilathikulam constituency, Geeta Jeevan (DMK) for Tuticorin constituency, Raja Mannar (DMK) for Ottapidaram constituency, and S. P. Shanmuganathan (AIADMK) for Srivaikundam constituency.

A. Ganesan (DMDK) for Tiruchendur constituency, P. Mohan (AIADMK) for Ottapidaram constituency and S. Chelladurai (All India Forward Block) filed their papers before respective returning officers.

Tirunelveli

Eighteen candidates including three Congress candidates and four Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidates and a woman representative of self-help groups filed their papers on Monday.

The president of traders' wing and Congress candidate for Nanguneri constituency H. Vasanthakumar filed his papers with the District Supplies Officer Suresh Kumar.

Mr. Vasanthakumar has declared that he and his family members including Ms. Thamizh Selvi, sons Vinod Kumar and Vijay Kumar, were possessing assets in the form of cash, bonds, insurance policies, agriculture land, non-agriculture land, vehicles, houses, flats and commercial buildings worth Rs. 9.71 crore and borrowings to the tune of Rs. 16.87 crore.

DMK candidates T.P.M. Maideen Khan for Palayamkottai, M. Appavu for Radhapuram, S. Thangavel for Sankarankovil (reserved) and R. Avudaiyappan for Ambasamudram filed their papers.

The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate for Vasudevanallur (reserved) constituency Sadhan Thirumalaikumar, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidates Sivakumar (Tirunelveli), Arunachala Samy (Palayamkottai) and Ravi Arunan (Tenkasi), the Congress candidates Veldurai (Cheranmahadevi) and Peter Alphonse (Kadayanallur) filed their nominations.

S. Dhanam (Radhapuram), Namasivaya Sankar (Palayamkottai), Thangappan (Tenkasi) filed their nomination papers as independents.
