DEHRA DUN: Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Namo Narain Meena on Monday called for greater cooperation among the countries of the Asia Pacific region to develop a consensus to tackle various problems facing the forestry sector. Inaugurating the five-day 21st Asia Pacific Forestry Commission Meeting here, Mr. Meena while lauding the efforts of the Commission and member-countries in improving the forest cover felt that much needed to be done in areas such as finance, transfer of technology, traditional knowledge, Intellectual Property Rights and trade. Uttaranchal Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari urged the delegates to ensure a greater flow of funds to India as the Himalayas and rich forests in the country were a major tool to sustain the ozone levels of earth. He underlined the efforts made by the State in the field of forest management and the system of van panchayats.
