BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Government has urged the Centre to release the first instalment of Rs. 918.79 crores to ensure proper implementation of the Rural Employment Guarantee scheme in the State. The State Minister for Panchayat Rural Development and Public Relations, Narendra Singh Tomar, has sent a letter to the Government of India saying that implementation of the employment guarantee scheme would be adversely affected if the Centre delays the release of funds already allotted to the State. Mr. Tomar said that under the Madhya Pradesh Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Scheme, 4,074,838 families had been registered and 34 lakh job cards issued. He said about 1,500 development works had been started and over 10 lakh persons given employment in the State. He went on to inform that Rs. 97.64 crores had been received in the form of seed money from the Union Government for implementation of the scheme. From this amount, Rs.81.98 crores had already been spent. The Minister said the Centre had been requested to release the allotted amount of Rs. 918.79 crores for 2006-07 so that employment could be provided to needy persons within the targeted period. The State Government estimated an expenditure of Rs.1,400 crores on this scheme and made a provision of Rs. 140 crores in the 2006-07 Budget. The scheme is being implemented in 18 districts, Satna, Sidhi, Shahdol, Umaria, Dhar, Jhabua, Khargone, Badwani, Shivpuri, Balaghat, Dindori, Mandla, Seoni, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Sheopur and Betul.
