NOMINATIONS: Congress candidate, S.Rajakumar, accompanied by Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, filing his nomination for Mayiladuturai constituency. Right, cine actor Vijaya T.Rajendhar, president of Latchiya Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, filing his no mination as independent candidate for Mayiladuturai.
Thanjavur: A total of 24 candidates filed their nomination papers for different constituencies for the May 8 Assembly elections in the district on Monday. Those who filed their nominations included independents while others belonged to different political parties. Former Minister Ko.Si.Mani of the DMK filed his papers for Kumbakonam constituency while M.Rangaswamy of the AIADMK submitted his papers for Thanjavur seat. Others who filed the nominations included sitting MLA N.R.Rangarajan of Congress (Pattukottai), Devadoss of Desiya Morpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) (Kumbakonam), M.S.Ramalingam of the BJP, (Thanjavur), S.Thirugnanasambandam of Congress (Peravurani), M.Ramkumar for Papanasam Assembly constituency, Senthamizhselvan of the DMK (Valangaiman). Ko.Si.Mani filed the nomination before S.Somasundaram, Revenue Divisional Officer, Kumbakonam while N.R.Rangarajan filed the nomination before E.Vasudevan, Revenue Divisional Officer, Pattukottai. M.Rangaswamy filed nomination to D.Thangavelu, Revenue Divisional Officer, Thanjavur.
Nagapattinam
Twentyone nominations were filed for the six Assembly segments in the district. For the Mayiladuturai seat, S.Rajakumar, of Congress (TNCC general secretary), accompanied by Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar, filed his nomination before K.Periasamy, Revenue Divisional Officer, Mayiladuturai. Rajakumar's wife, Anandanayagi, filed her nomination as dummy candidate for Rajakumar. Vijaya T.Rajendhar, cine actor and chief of Lakshiya Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, also filed his nomination for the Mayiladuturai seat as independent candidate. M.Mahalingam, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate for Mayiladuturai, N.Kaliyaperumal (dummy candidate) and Ameenullah of Needur, another independent, filed their nominations for Mayiladuturai seat. R.Panneerselvam (BSP) and three independents Shaik Fareeth, P.Mathialagan and Ratnavelu filed their nominations for Nagapattinam Assembly seat. M.Panneerselvam (DMK) filed his nomination for the Sirkazhi (Reserved) seat and Pon.Balakrishnan filed his nomination as dummy candidate for Penneerselvam. S.K.Vedarathinam (DMK) filed his nominations for Vedaranyam seat and Kumaravelu filed his nomination papers as dummy candidate for Vedarathinam. For Poompuhar Assembly seat, M.K.Periasamy, Pattali Makkal Katchi candidate, filed his nomination at Tharangampadi and K.Agoramurthy filed his nomination as dummy candidate for Periyasamy. Similarly, S.Pavunraj, (AIADMK) and Krishnamurthy (dummy) for Pavunraj filed their nominations for the seat. V.R.Prabhakar, an independent has also filed his nominations for the seat. M.K.Sarangapani and S.Tamilarasi filed their nominations for Kuttalam seat. With this, the total number of nominations filed for the six Assembly seats in Nagapattinam district had risen to 31.
Karaikal
Twelve candidates including a Minister and two sitting DMK MLAs have filed their nominations on Monday for five seats in Karaikal district in the Union Territory of Pondicherry. M.Chandrakasu, Congress candidate (sitting MLA and Minister for Industries and Welfare) filed his nomination papers for the Nedungadu (Reserved) seat. Thangavelu filed his nomination as dummy candidate for Chandrakasu. Marimuthu and M.Kadhiravan filed nominations as independents. A.M.H.Nazeem, DMK candidate (sitting MLA) has filed his nominations for the Karaikal (North) Assembly seat and K.R.Kasinathan filed his nominations as dummy candidate for Nazeem. S.Selvaganapathy, AIADMK candidate and Parameswaran (his dummy), Thanga Devadas and S.A.Md.Yusuf, two independents, have filed their nominations for the seat. V.M.C.Sivakumar, DMK candidate (sitting MLA), has filed his nominations for the Neravy seat and Palanivelu, an independent, filed his nomination for the Kottucherry seat.
